Google could be about to follow their Cardboard virtual reality headset with a rival to the successful Gear VR.
The company is allegedly planning to expand its VR range with a more solid plastic model featuring an in-built sensor, FT reports.
Google's chief executive Sundar Pichai recently said that the Cardboard was "just the first step" in its VR range.
"Beyond these early efforts, you'll see a lot more from us and our partners in 2016," he said.
The news comes after rumours that the company was stepping up its VR efforts by launching a headset of its own, after it hired hardware and software engineers for VR camera systems, as well as host of other new positions.
Meanwhile, Apple has snapped up Virginia Tech professor Doug Bowman—an expert in virtual and augmented reality who won an award for his work with Microsoft's HoloLens—hinting that the iPhone maker also has plans for VR.
Nintendo also seems to have changed its mind about the potential of VR, letting investors know today that the Japanese firm is "looking at" the tech.
